About the Project
Organic Soda Pops is a B2B wholesale marketplace built by Arcforth to rebuild organicsodapops.com. Independent makers list organic sodas, kombucha, snacks and fountain equipment, cafés, grocers and bottle shops buy by the case, and the platform team runs approvals, orders, exceptions and vendor payouts from one admin.

The Challenge
The store ran on Shopify Basic, which supports neither true B2B buying nor multiple vendors, and bulk drink orders bring freight, tax and settlement problems a consumer storefront never meets.
Pain Point: No Real B2B Buying
Wholesale needs company accounts, minimum order quantities and case packs. On Shopify these are Plus-only, so wholesale prices sat behind a login.
Pain Point: One Cart, Many Makers
A retailer's cart can hold products from several independent vendors, each shipping from its own location on its own terms.
Pain Point: Parcel or Freight
Heavy and bulk orders need LTL freight while small ones go by parcel, and pricing the wrong way round eats the margin.
Pain Point: Settling With Vendors
The platform collects every payment, so it must pay each vendor back after commission, refunds and chargebacks. The original spec had no payout feature at all.

Objectives
Rebuild the store as a custom multi-vendor wholesale marketplace: buyer, vendor and admin apps on one API, with Stripe as the only payment rail.
Target:
MOQ and case packs enforced on the server, every cart split into one order per vendor, and each vendor settled on a Net-15 ledger that never pays an order twice.

Approach
We replaced the Shopify-based first version with a custom Express and Postgres platform, built in four layers:
- 01. Vendor Onboarding & Approval
- 02. Wholesale Catalog & MOQ Rules
- 03. Per-Vendor Checkout & Freight
- 04. Ledger & Payouts
Rules on the Server
Minimum order quantities, case sizes, vendor minimum order values and quantity-break prices are enforced by the API, not just the cart.
Shipping Classified per Order
Each vendor order is classed as parcel, LTL freight or manual review from its weight and units, priced by formula with optional Freight Club carrier rates.
Payments That Reconcile
Embedded Stripe payments and Stripe Tax with resale-certificate exemptions, signed webhooks and an hourly reconciliation job as a safety net.

The Ecosystem
Three apps on one typed API, kept current with real-time updates and scheduled background jobs.
Wholesale Storefront
Search, certification filters, brand pages, case-pack variants, quote requests, reorders and returns for retail buyers.
Vendor Portal
Brand profile, SKU and shipping data, order confirmation and fulfilment with tracking, stock-shortfall reports, sales and payouts.
Admin Console
Vendor approvals, catalog curation, order monitoring, an exceptions queue, vendor payouts and per-section permissions.
Live Platform Controls
A landing-page editor and design system that update every open storefront live, plus feature flags, email campaigns and an audit log.

Outcomes
A production-grade marketplace with automated tests in every package, taken from first commit to release candidate between June and October 2026.
